Julia Elmahleh-Sachs, president of IND, called the meeting to order at 7:05 pm.
The primary purpose of the meeting was to discuss candidates asking for endorsements in the June primary and to vote on the endorsements.
The candidates for district leader in the 52nd Assembly District (both running unopposed) were allotted time for presentations to the membership.
The meeting was then closed to all who were not eligible to vote.
There was a discussion of a motion (Matthew Fairley) to eliminate discussion and voting on the candidates for congressional representative, since the latest court decision calls for the district to be redrawn. However, if the Supreme Court decides to take up the matter, that decision could be stayed. A vote by the body led to a decision to discuss the candidates and vote to endorse, but not to disclose the result of the vote unless and until there is a final resolution that determines that the district will remain as is. If the district is redrawn, a new endorsement vote or votes will be necessary.
The body then voted (remotely) for endorsements of:
- Governor/Lt Governor: Kathy Hochul/Adrienne Adams OR No Endorsement
- Attorney General: Letitia James OR No Endorsement
- Comptroller: Thomas DiNapoli, Raj Goyle, Drew Warshaw, Adem Bunkeddeko, OR No Endorsement
- Congressional District 7: Antonio Reynoso, Julie Won, Claire Valdez, Paperboy Prince, OR No Endorsement
- Congressional District 10: Daniel Goldman, Brad Lander, Nickie Kane, OR No Endorsement
- Senate District 20: Zellnor Myrie OR No Endorsement
- Senate District 25: Jabari Brisport, Marlon Rice, OR No Endorsement
- Senate District 26: Andrew Gounardes OR No Endorsement
- Assembly District 52: Jo Anne Simon, Lydia Green, OR No Endorsement
- Countywide Civil Court Judge (4 can win): Celeste Felix, Linda Lo Cascio, Danielle Noel, Christine Ortiz, OR No Endorsement
- Municipal Court Judge District 6: Janice Purvis OR No Endorsement
- State Committee Member (2 can win): Ilyssa Meyer, Aaron Ouyang, OR No Endorsement
Voting would continue until midnight, and results would be announced via email. After that announcement, Julia announced that the next general meeting would take place on March 19 at 7 pm at Brooklyn Law School and that primary petitions could be picked up next week; petitioning starts on February 24.
The meeting was adjourned at 9:10 pm.
