Matthew Fairley, vice president of IND, called the meeting to order at 7:05 pm. He presided over the meeting due to the excused absence of the president, Julia Elmahleh-Sachs. Matt reported the results of IND’s petitioning efforts and highlighted the members who gathered the greatest number of signatures.
Harry Trustman, representing Congressman Dan Goldman’s campaign, provided an update on campaign activities and expressed gratitude for IND.’s endorsement and support.
Ruth Messinger, former City Council member, Manhattan Borough President and CEO of American Jewish World Service addressed the membership, covering three topics: recent changes in NYC government, her current work in the area of immigration and the state of our nation.
Assemblymember Jo Anne Simon gave an update on recent events in Albany.
Matt announced a number of upcoming events, including:

April 30: Java with Jo Anne
May 14: Heights Players Performance for seniors, sponsored by IND
Matt invited anyone who had brought personal items to be distributed to homeless New Yorkers to place them in the bags provided. Maya Kornberg will arrange for them to be added to collection of the Park Slope Civic Council.
On motion made and seconded, the meeting was adjourned at 9pm.
