September 18, 2025 Meeting Summary

Seamus Campbell, President of IND, opened the meeting.

Endorsement of Democratic candidates for City offices. The first order of business was the vote on the Club’s endorsement of all Democratic candidates who won in the June primary. The members voted to endorse all candidates.

Kayla Santosuosso, the Democratic candidate for New York City Council District 47 in southern Brooklyn, addressed the Club via Zoom and asked for IND’s support. She would welcome volunteers to help with her campaign.

Alec Shierenbeck, the Executive Director of the NYC Charter Revision Commission, gave a presentation about the Charter amendments which will be on the ballot in November.

Elizabeth Adams, Deputy Executive Director for Public Affairs at Transportation Alternatives, gave a presentation about daylighting.

A representative from Zohran Mamdani’s campaign asked for volunteers to help with the campaign.

Michael Colombo, the Democratic candidate running for Borough President of Staten Island, introduced himself to the Club and asked for their support.

Assemblmember Jo Anne Simon provided an update on recent developments in Albany and in the 52nd AD.

Seamus asked for volunteers to staff the IND table at the Atlantic Antic and sent around a sign-up sheet.

Seamus reported that IND’s Annual Jazz Brunch, held the previous Sunday, was a big success with great honorees, great food and the largest number of attendees ever!
